Coordinating Quantum Efforts Across FIU
The FIU Quantum Committee is the university's official body for advancing quantum science, education and industry partnerships.
The committee's charge is to support a unified quantum ecosystem at FIU, one that connects fundamental science to engineering, software, real-world applications and the workforce that will power them.
Strategic Priorities
University-level center planning
Develop the Quantum Center concept, mission, governance interface, research themes, participating colleges, infrastructure/access model, education and workforce strategy, partnerships, and funding roadmap.
Research and major proposals
Organize a limited number of faculty teams to develop center-level proposals. Seek and maintain a continuous pipeline of NSF, DOE, DoW/DARPA, NIST, state, foundation, and industry opportunities, building from seed projects to multi-investigator, multi-institutional proposals.
Quantum infrastructure activation
Create a research and educational utilization plan for FIU's emerging on-campus quantum capability, including benchmarking, secure user access, hybrid quantum-classical workflows, student laboratories, and partner projects.
Education and workforce development
Build undergraduate and graduate course pathways, laboratory experiences, capstones, research assistantships, internships, theses and dissertations, and a roadmap toward appropriate credentials.
Industry and national-laboratory engagement
Establish a Quantum External Advisory Board and structured collaborations that inform research priorities, workforce needs, sponsored projects, internships, and proposals.
Strengthen faculty expertise and visibility
Inventory FIU expertise and gaps; recommend targeted faculty, postdoctoral, research staffing; and build visibility through seminars, workshops, faculty/student forums, and an annual quantum event. Make recommendations for a coordinated faculty recruitment plan across colleges and departments in areas related to quantum.
